How to use Mods in Sins

OK, I finally re-established my software on the rebuild.  I downloaded several Mods and attempted to use.  However when I selected a Mod to load the software crashed.  

 

So the question is, how to stop the crashing and whats the correct way to load the Mods?

 

also interesed in learning how to do Mods on ship designs, any links would be nice

1. Make sure the mods you download are for the versions of the game you have. I'd bet that is your problem, but if not you should ask the modders for the individual mods for help.
