Buuuuuuullshit. Plate armour went out of fashion due to the improvements in the field of firearms centuries ago. You wouldn't stand a chance against a modern firearm wearing even the best-made suit of armour.
You never know. Most of what I'd hope it would protect against is common pistol ammunition. An assault rifle would turn it into tissue paper posthaste, yeah.

I don't have hers, but I plan on giving her mine- though it's more because, for a while now, I felt a desire to give her some kind of rapid contact information and inform her that if she needs any kind of help at all, I will do my best to aid her.

There's things I'd feel comfortable sharing with her that I wouldn't even dare to talk about to you guys- and you're 'closer' to me than most, probably due to ANONYMOUS POWAHS.
I'd say go for the phone call, or even just contact her on facebook (if you have facebook and she's a friend) and say you felt like getting in contact having not spoken to her in a while.

It "impedes" the weight of the wearer though, and thus their mobility. Try running with 40-50 kilograms of weight locked on you, then tell me that it "doesnt impede the mobility of the wearer"
You know what I meant, I'm sure- that it did not make a properly trained knight overly slow and clumsy. Particularly before the development of plate armor, when mail was the standard protection of the knights.
As for pistols, try a .50 cal Desert Eagle, I'd say it would be a little bit more powerful than you'd want
I will now gently point out that a Desert Eagle .50 AE handgun is a highly impractical, and exceedingly expensive, weapon to employ. If only for the fact that both gun and ammunition are very expensive (the pistol runs ~2000 USD, easily enough to get at least one assault rifle- more if purchased through illicit channels, I'd wager).
Combined with the excessive weight and recoil of the weapon, it's very impractical unless you're going to shoot a bear with it, in which case the question becomes "how the [CENSORED] did you let a [CENSORED] bear get that [CENSORED] close to you you [CENSORED]!"

That is so true, and the worst part is, some girls tend to show these letters of affection to their friends, and be all like "look how much he likes me! Isnt that really sweet?", and then you lose all the privacy you thought you had, by writing a letter.
She doesn't seem the type. There's also the minor issue in that I intend to deliver it anonymously (somehow.......anybody know a good way to link a license plate number to an address, you know, that doesn't cost money and won't be traced by the plate holder?), and enclose my phone number- either she figures it out, and calls me, or she doesn't, and is curious, and calls me anyway.
I want to also add that even though its far better to say these things in person, one may be a little too embarrassed or not have the courage to do so. So if you cant do it in person, whats left? A letter, or a text message (SMS), or an IM so on so forth.

That is not true. It really depends on the materials used for the armor a lot more than you think. Sure, if you use Iron or Steel the way they used to make them - which is forged metal with A LOT of impurities- you are going to get creamed even by a cheap 9 mm handgun. But if you use good materials, not necessarily expensive, with little or no impurities as well, then you can withstand low power firearms like Whiskey said.
Also, do I need to mention Kevlar and Titanium ?
Oh, BTW, plate armor went out of fashion because bulletproof vests appeared, because there was absolutely no sense at all wearing full body armor that covers the knees, the feet, the hands, etc, and making yourself tank-heavy, when 90% of shots are on the torso, which needs the most protection. So yeah, lightweight, Kevlar vests ARE so much better.
