Also, 'Abraham' is NOT worshiped in Judaism. The basic beliefs about God are also different in each; Islam is a 'only one God', Christianity is a 'triune' God, that is a God who is one being in 3 manifestations.

Of course there's no scientific proof that God exists.....on the surface. I mean, the probabilities and possibilities and all that that life could arise without any intelligence prodding it along is simply stupid.

The idea that the, albeit inefficient from a mechanical standpoint, human body, which is incredibly complex could arise from random processes is simply ludicrous. At the very least, you'd have to say that there's something intelligent that caused all that.

My opinion is that the Creation account given in Genesis is the truth; that's how Man arose. Also, it is incredibly important to remember correlation DOES NOT IMPLY causation. That is to say, just because there's evidence that these things are occurring in said individuals, doesn't mean that the occurrences are the reason/cause of their behaviour.

Of course, the reason today's society has 50% of marriages ending in divorce is because of the moral bankruptcy of said society.

Actually, 'Unobtainium' is used in SF discussions as a term to describe a piece of technology that we can't currently construct, but that we can delineate the capabilities of based on our current understanding of physics.

So, a magic metal wouldn't be unobtainium. It'd be 'MacGuffinite'*. Unobtainium would be the ship they used to get to the moon thing, or a high-powered laser cannon, or a nuclear-based propulsion system, or an antimatter based power or propulsion device.

*MacGuffinite is derived from the term MacGuffin; a MacGuffin is a contrivance of a story's plot to move said plot forward. MacGuffinite is a contrivance in the form of some valuable commodity. Hence, Cameron's 'unobtainium' should have been called 'MacGuffinite'. It was there only to provide a reason for why the humans are trying to do bad things to blue monkey people and why they decided to cross an interstellar expanse.

In 'hard' (read: semi-realistic/moderately-rooted in real-world physics; YMMV) SF 'Unobtainium' is never used to describe something within the contents of the book.

Unobtainium is instead used to describe terminology relating to devices that we can't build now, but based on our current scientific knowledge would work a 'x' way. For example, an antimatter drive is Unobtainium.

Note that there are some other SF terms:

Handwavium: 'waving our hands, don't pay attention to the Welsh women singing'. Basically, a piece of 'handwavium' (also a term never used in a story) is something that flat-out violates physics. FTL is an example; however FTL is perfectly acceptable; it's generally a given, as fans/readers want it, (almost) everyone else does it, and it makes getting around the galaxy easier.

Technobabble: ever seen Star Trek? Particularly the later series? And all those funky words and phrases they throw around to describe stuff? That's technobabble. Ex: 'our tachyon arrays have been recalibrated to detect the Warbird sir!' technobabble is one of those things that only stands out when done poorly. Like in TNG onward Star Trek.

MacGuffinite: magic metal/goods/commodity that gives you a reason to be someplace. Typically this kind of thing is some awesomely useful material that's only available in space (or available in extremely limited quantities on Earth). Based on the term 'MacGuffin', which is a plot contrivance to move the story forward/give a reason to be somewhere.

The 'Infinite Improbability Drive' from The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy is probably an example of MacGuffinte, only as a technological handwavium device and taken to the ultimate, logical conclusion.

Side note: if a Trek Federation ship fired torpedoes at the SS Heart of Gold, the only ship which mounts the Infinite Improbability Drive, the most like result would be the HoG uses it's IID, and then turns the torpedoes into an assortment of random objects.

Said objects would likely include a buttercup-yellow sundress, that is the perfect size for one of the Hitchiker's Guide female characters, who happens to be on the Heart of Gold.

I've watched that movie many times, and I thought it was quite nice, if you can ignore the big fat bull it contains. But if you dont care about realism and credibility, then this movie is actually really great, having enough suspense and action to keep you staring at your tv screen.

I'd give it a good 8.0 out of 10

The Infinite Improbability Drive is actually a very tongue-in-cheek way of the writer (Douglas Adams) solving the dilemma of how a spaceship would rescue the 2 main characters after they're ejected from an unfriendly spaceship.

Because of how infinitely improbable it was, he decided that the IID would be the method that caused it.

Technically, yes, 9x6 is 54. But in the Hitchiker's Guide, the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything, is 42. Really. Not kidding.

So because 42 is the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything, 42 is also the answer to all mathematical problems. Hence, 2+2=42, 9x6=42, 77,777^2=42.

You should try and get a copy of The Ultimate Hitchiker's Guide, which contains all of the Hitchiker's Guide novels that were written by Douglas Adams. They're all pretty good, though I didn't like Mostly Harmless, the last novel, very much as at they end everybody died.

Though of course I can totally abuse that to say 'the Infinite Improbability Drive transports them all aboard the SS Heart of Gold nanoseconds before they die and they end up in [insert other fictional scifi universe here]'.

Incidentally, who here who's read the Guide thinks that a Star Trek/Guide crossover would be hilarious? After all, a man has to know where his towel is.
