But you don't really need to read into it for religious or political sins - the whole game is a war which is horrific. You lay waste to entire planets, kill billions of people - I mean, yeah, lots and lots of military ships/personel are killed, but Sins treats civilians on a level of apathy close to Defcon; not as score but as hit points. You sin every time you play.
i wouldnt say that... the war was a result of previously committed Sins... TEC kicking the Advent out and whatnot, Advent performing taboo research, Vasari enslaving etc other races, and experimenting with technology too advanced for them/too powerful to control... and also... i wouldnt call the TEC's participation in the war as a Sin, they are protecting themselves desperately from 2 highly advanced, hostile races... unfortunately people need to die... as for the bombing of planets... that doesnt make sense and has been brought up in other posts, why are nukes etc needed when precision strike hits would suffice... i dont consider the nuking of planets applicable in this situation as it doesnt fit... well, reality really, and is just a game mechanic that is easy to understand on a purely superficial level.
also... im pretty sure the writers of the bible didnt have little numbers representing humans in mind when they wrote 'thou shalt not kill'...
people need to get over sensitivities and ultimate truths... there are no such things and when you apply the wrong rules to the wrong situations, you end up stagnating or going backwards as a society... anyway, end of the rant now... =P
