How to move my copy of Impulse and Demigod properly to another machine

Hi guys

I have been able to get demigod to work on another machine by just copying the files across but I want to make sure that Impulse is running properly and keeping it up to date with the patches etc.

What is the correct process to move both Impulse and Demigod to my new computer without having to redownload demigod etc..

use impulse to archive it

copy the archive file

install impulse on the new, use it to restore the archive

I find that it's more reliable to just copy the whole game over and use Detect Application.  I just tried to use the archive function on a different title and couldn't restore for reasons I don't know.

maybe it's a game thing... size, mod files, etc...

Thanks guys - I'll try out the archive this evening...  if that fails then I will try detection...

excited  about the new pc build..  Core i7 920, 6Gb ddr3, 4890

Well

 

I did the move files and detect application.   That worked and the game works.

But of course it requires an update.  When i attempt to update it says please reinstall the game.

 

Reinstall?  From what?  This is exactly what I was trying to avoid.  If I verify the installation it says that I should try an update.

Which of course requires a reinstall.

What is the official Stardock method for this???

As I said over @ [Fixed] Demigod Installing after Reformat

The procedure is:

  1. Open Demigod.exe in the bin folder (This is to make sure that it is put in the registry)
  2. Open Regedit.exe (Start -> Run -> Regedit.exe)
  3. Find the registry entry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Stardock\Drengin.net\Demigod
  4. Edit Version 0.0.0 and change to 1.0.0
  5. Open Impulse
  6. Right Click Demigod then select Verify Installation
  7. Patch!

If you have any problems let me know, I have done this twice now and worked both times.

One thing that I must add - THe WOW component of the path in the Registry did not exist for me...  Perhaps because I am on XP?

Not sure.  But ignoring that part - the rest was exactly the same

Glad it helped! Yeah I am running 64bit Windows XP so I guess the key might be differant.

To find the key:

  1. I just went to find (ctrl + f)
  2. Typed Demigod
  3. Kept cycling through until I found the version key.

You can always give karma if it helped
