All this steam animosity is ridiculous. You're basing your arguments on how it was on the first year of release, that is a very long time ago now, it's time to give it a fresh look. It is nothing like it was the first time it was released. All the "i hate steam cuz its the cool thin to do, it shows i'm knowledgeable about computers" nonsense online is based on severely outdated problems that no longer exist in any way, and principles that no longer apply since our gaming industry HAS moved to nearly fully digital.
No one was hating on Steam, however, you Steam fan boys are sure quick to jump in and start hating on anyone who chooses not to use it. Do yourselves a favor, rather then wasting your time trying to create a coherent sentence to attack someone, go back to elementary school and learn how to read because clearly, you fail abysmally when it comes to reading comprehension. Go back, reread what I said without your little rose blinders on and you'll see you really have no justification for commenting the way you did.
Well then, screw you too. If this is the official stance of the Distant Stars modding team, then you've just lost a fan. Ridiculous behavior.
If that's what you got out of it, then you weren't a fan to begin with and we're all much better off without you. If you at any point had bother to read the OP after the Rebellion announcement, you would have seen it states that there will be a version for Rebellion. If you had been a fan and read any of the conversations about modding DS for Rebellion after it's announcement and up to the point it was announced that it would require Steam, you would have read me saying I'd have a version released during the beta, and a more finalized one within a week of retail release. A real fan would have known this. Since you didn't even know that while I won't be working on Rebellion, the others will be, and while they're focusing on that, I'll still be working and supporting the other three versions. Some fan you are. You lack even the most basic information about the development of the mod that has been posted and talked about here.
For our sakes, if your gonna that pissy over it, get the Reloaded version, do what mod work you need to do, and be done with it. Stick with Diplomacy/Trinity for playing.
Wasn't getting pissy, reread it without your own personal emotions and Bias and you'll see it was actually my end of an intelligent discussion that I thought we were all having. I will stick with them, I said so months ago.
I was just stating an opinion.
So was I, too bad an idiot had to come on here and start ranting like a bitch because he lacks reading comprehension which in turn started something else entirely.
Anyway, whatever he does, I don't really care.
My thoughts exactly. Too bad people seem to mysteriously not read that part when it suits their desires to be a piece of shit. ( -=Edit=- Not directed at you Xathos, directed at Baleurion. Just in case there is any confusion over the intended target. )
Jesus Christ people... I wasn't ranting, or bitching, or pissing, or moaning over anything. I was stating my reasons for not wanting to use it. You know, this sort of things happens when, oh I don't know, adults talk. You state your opinion, I state mine, we explain our positions and we all walk away happier maybe having learned something. If all of you children weren't such dumb ass fan boy tools for Steam (Those that took offense to what I said), you might have read me saying I don't give a rat's ass if you use it or not. In my previous statements of my opinion, you may have read me say things like, I like many of the features steam provides and I find many of them to be worthwhile, especially for a multiplayer centric game, I just don't like how you have to always have it running / always be online (but if you're a multiplayer, these are non issues because you have to have it running and be online anyway). You may have read me saying as a consumer, all I can do is state my opinions and vote with my wallet and have done both. No where in anything I have ever wrote about steam have I ever once tried to convince even a single person to not use it. I have my personal issues with Valve and won't support them, Steam is their baby and thus doesn't get my blessing or support because of it. If you don't like it, "go fuck yourself" as someone inaccurately paraphrased, but don't try to convince me that I'm wrong, because I haven't ever once tried to convince any single supporter that they are wrong for using it. If you like steam, GREAT! Fucking fantastic! Keep on using it. Have a great god damned time. I don't care. By coming on here and ranting that "Oh, you're stupid if you don't like it." "It's not like it was before and you should just give up your crusade..." First, I'm not on a crusade because I'm not speaking out against it in such a way to get you to not use it, I speak in terms of "This is my experience with it, they failed me TWICE, I won't support them." In RECENT talks with them to get those banned accounts unbanned, I have been told, they will not revisit the issue. This is something I have already stated. As far as I am concerned, they are no better now then they were in the past because they refuse to look at the issue with their current standards and current policies and reinstate the accounts. This is not me just going off and refusing to give them a second chance, I've given them a second and got banned a second time, third, fourth, fifth, sixth chance trying to get unbanned... How many is a person supposed to give to satisfy the fan boy idiots that enough has been given? Please answer me this. At some point you just have to say I give up, there will be no more chances. I've reached that point. I will not support Valve until they revisit the issue and at the very least, make a determination one way or the other. But THEY refuse now, just as they did then, to even bother to review it. Who is the one who really needs to be told to give someone or something another chance? That would be Valve, not me. Fan boys are big on the fairness talk, yet fail to realize that it's Valve not being fair.
And let me just point out one final thing here about this Baleurion character and his opinions...
Frankly I think it's incredibly selfish and stupid to just say "muh i dont like steam so fook it, i wont help update this mod anymore".
"I won't help update this mod anymore." Really?
My work, hell, all of our work on this mod is completely VOLUNTARY! I've even on more then one occasion stated to NOT put my name on the project even though at one point in time, I was really the only one actively developing anything for it and fixing issues that were reported. If you give me credit for my work, fine, I ask for none. I don't have a forum avatar that says I am a team member. That was my choice, just like it's my choice to give my time and talents to this mod and to those who play and enjoy it. We all have lives away from this, sometimes they are busier then at other times. We do not get paid for ANYTHING we do here. We do what we feel would be fun, we work together to create a much bigger fun thing, and then let others enjoy OUR work, for FREE! How in the hell is it "incredibly selfish and stupid" as you say, of any of us to decide to no longer work on this or any project, for any reason that we feel like stating? Answer that before making any other comment here because I would love to hear your justification for that comment. Please, Baleurion... You are such a tool, I can't even believe I wasted half an hour of my time responding to you and 10 minutes of everyone else's time reading my response to you. To everyone else, I apologize. If he's a man of his word, we won't ever have to deal with him again, but trolls are hardly men of their words... So strap yourselves in because this bumpy ride could potentially get much more fun for me.
You sir, owe me an apology. That is not my position and I don't appreciate it being made my position by proxy.
Now onto other business!
is the mod going to be updated for sins origional 1.9.3?
I have a working, pretty much updated copy of DS for Vanilla Sins. I'll have to dig it up and verify that it's working at acceptable levels, but if you PM me, reminding me, I'll try to get some time in to get it all put together and PM you back a link for it. If I don't get reminded, I can't promise it'll get done. Working 7 days a week now and my daughters are on Summer break from school so I've got a lot of distractions.
there is also my mod updater.
There is that too, but it only makes it playable in it's current form, not that it updates with the newer content.
Wow apparently the Distant team/members are all on their periods.
Seems like it doesn't it?
This usually happens when some idiot comes on trashing the place without actually reading what was said and acts like they know better then those that actually do stuff around here. It's a free fall that I'm happy to be a part of most of the time. =P
They're most likely trying their best in making and porting the mod over to Rebellion, so they must have a large amount of stress, just give them some space and It should all be fine.
Porting is the easy part, I can do that with the reference set of files. I just can't test anything to make sure it actually works, doesn't look stupid, or doesn't gimp/OP something else. It's the new ideas that takes the time to work out. But yeah, space is good. And not saying it's incredibly selfish and stupid to stop doing something that you do on a voluntary basis. That tends to really piss some people off and makes them take a break and get back to their already incredibly demanding and fulfilling off-line lives, which adds to the time between updates.
More like Nacey is porting and Carbon and I are chomping at the bit as well.
And we find out there is only one incredibly busy person working on it... Haha. I should log onto TS and start bugging Carbon to actually do something.
Nice....vanilla Sins leaves alot to be desired for me in that regard. Especially regarding capital ships.
The version I might have completed is basically Diplomacy back ported to Vanilla with all of the Diplomacy and Entrenchment content removed. It's been quite some time since I've actually put time into it, so we'll see. Time permitting, I'll look into getting it at least pushed off to Carbon and Ryat for testing and approval since they don't seem to be busy with anything else.
